California Rural Legal Assistance, Inc. (CRLA) is a nonprofit law firm founded in 1966 to provide free civil legal services to low-income residents of California's rural counties. With a mission to dismantle unjust systems through community lawyering, CRLA serves a diverse clientele, including farmworkers, disabled individuals, immigrants, school children, seniors, and those with limited English proficiency. The organization operates 18 offices across California, ensuring accessible legal assistance for rural communities. In 2020, CRLA impacted over 54,000 low-income individuals, closed 6,303 cases for individuals, families, and community groups, served 1,788 disabled individuals, and assisted 1,285 seniors. Their areas of expertise encompass employment and labor, housing, education, rural health, and leadership development.
