California Highway Patrol (CHP) is dedicated to providing the highest level of safety, service, and security on California's roadways. Established in 1929, CHP operates over 100 offices statewide, including the El Cajon Area office, which was established in 1976 to better serve San Diego East County. This office is responsible for nearly 3,000 square miles, encompassing urban, rural, desert, mountain, recreational, and wilderness areas. Major freeways under its jurisdiction include Interstate 8, State Route 125, State Route 52, State Route 67, State Route 78, State Route 94, State Route 54, State Route 188, and State Route 79. The El Cajon Area employs 93 uniformed officers, supervised by a team of 10 sergeants, two lieutenants, and one captain. They serve unincorporated communities such as El Cajon, Granite Hills, Dehesa, Spring Valley, Rancho San Diego, Jamul, Lakeside, and Alpine.
